AliExpress Doll Drama: Recasts in the Shop?

I did a very informative video this past Dolly Talk Tue on my YouTube channel regarding recasts. The reason why I even thought about doing this was because we have so many new people wanting to join the hobby and get trapped into buying these dolls not knowing they are recasts.

I think the most eye opening thing to me was the fact that they had their own COAs (certificate of authenticity) for their recast dolls. This makes things even more confusing for someone starting off in this hobby that may not know anything about BJDs.

Viewers in the stream were saying that pretty much any of the dolls sold on AliExpress are guaranteed to be recast and after browsing around it really felt like that. They even had some Blythe and Reborn dolls there too that seemed questionable.

So for those who are new to the hobby I can just say that it is still safest to get your BJDs straight from the company or from a reliable distributor. Again you can find a master list of doll companies on http://www.bjdcollectasy.com

Tips on identifying if it is a recast doll on AliExpress

  • They have questionable titles with multiple doll names in it

  • You see super crazy discount deals on the dolls

  • Questionable images…like seriously what are these photos. I died with the “Will you be my girlfriend?” photo and he is passing her a BJD. Although dangggg I probably would say heck yes if someone wanted to date me and handed me a $400 doll. MARRY ME!

I hope that these tips and list help those who are looking to join the hobby. Ultimately it is the buyers decision on whether or not they go with recasts.
